The Technology
Using the principle of selective photothermolysis, the laser targets different chromophores in the skin that selectively absorb the laser or light energy as heat. These optimal wavelengths of light clear vascular and pigmented lesions by targeting the chromophores of hemoglobin (for vascular lesions) and melanin (for pigmented lesions).
Damaged lesions are then cleared by the body and disappear from the skin. Pigmented lesions undergo a mild desquamation and slough off within two or three days, while the vascular lesions blanch and then resolve within 10 to 14 days.
IPL / PHOTOFACIAL
IPL – or Intense Pulsed Light – is a laser that penetrates deep into the dermis to treat acne, veins, excessive pigmentation and discolorations. The SoLux laser technician prepares the targeted area, then applies a hand piece to the skin and releases the laser beam.
Several days after treatment, the pigmented area will rise to the surface and flake off. At SoLux Med Spa in Chicago, we often facilitate this exfoliation process with Microdermabrasion or Signature Peels between treatments, which also provide improved skin tone and texture.
The procedure is fairly painless; as the beam is emitted the patient will feel a mild sting. After treatment, the SoLux technician may apply cold compresses to reduce any redness, and the patient may immediately resume normal activities.

Dermal Fillers
Dermal fillers reduce signs of aging caused by diminishing collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid – components of our skin that give it fullness. Fillers are commonly used on the face and hands, and can effectively plump lips, fill hollow cheeks, diminish the appearance of scars, elevate deep creases, erase fine lines, and lift the brow or a downturned mouth.

BOTOX®
BOTOX® is a non-surgical, preventative treatment in which medicine is injected into muscles and used to temporarily improve the look of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows. It works by blocking nerve impulses to the injected muscles, reducing the muscle activity that cause lines to form. It is also used effectively on crow’s feet (lines found at the corner of the eyes) and brow lines on the forehead.

The Technology

Progressive: Removes only the outer layer of skin via mild sloughing with repeated treatments, not by immediate exfoliation.
Mid-Depth: Affects the intra-epidermal layer; light exfoliation occurs within two to three days after application.
Deep: Affects the deepest intra-epidermal layers, resulting in considerable peeling of large segments over a period of seven to ten days.

How many treatments do I need?
The number of treatments varies between patients. While hair growth cycles differ on parts of the body, skin type, hair color and coarseness, as well as age and metabolism, all influence hair growth. Four to six treatments usually provide excellent results.

LASER HAIR REMOVAL AT SOLUX MED SPA
Laser Hair Removal, a specialty at SoLux Med Spa in Chicago, is the process of employing a laser beam to damage the hair follicle and permanently end hair growth.
Hair grows in 3 cycles: active, dormant and shedding. Laser hair removal is effective during the active stage. Making multiple, evenly spaced treatments is necessary to achieve desired results. The hair follicle absorbs the laser light, converting it to heat. This heat damages the follicle and inhibits hair growth. With each treatment, significantly less hair grows back until permanent hair reduction is achieved. Treatments may not be performed during pregnancy.

MICRODERMABRASION
Microdermabrasion, also called micro-resurfacing or mechanical exfoliation, is a non-chemical, non-invasive procedure that employs a mechanical medium to exfoliate skin, accompanied by an adjustable suction to remove dead skin cells from the epidermis. The removal of the outermost layer of cells reveals younger, healthier-looking skin immediately after the procedure. It also encourages the production of a new layer of skin cells containing higher levels of collagen and elastin, both of which further improve the skin’s appearance.
Microdermabrasion is used to decrease the appearance of superficial hyperpigmentation, sun damage, fine lines, wrinkles, and shallow acne scars. Removing the dead skin also aids in the deeper penetration of skin care products, improving their effectiveness.
